Rural communities in lndonesia are heavily relied on the biomass to satisfy their daily needs, mainly agricultural waste and wood. As an agriculture based country, it has all the potential to produce waste solid biomass in huge quantities. For example, in West Bandung District is one area in West Java province recorded at least 23 small household industries and some of primary energy consumption is covered by biomass. Biomass resgurces in this rurai sector as potential solid biomass energy are coming from the residues of certarn agriculture crops and the ioresi such as corncob, coconut shell and wood chips. However, incomplete ccmbustion of soiid biomass fuels in low efiiciency traditional cook-stove tends to emit hazardous pollutants and thereby aflect human health problems. lmproved cook-stoves can reduce fuel consumption and indoor air pollution' compare to traditional cook stoves. This paper presents the design of solid biomass naturai convection stove iesi with those solid biomass as fuel. The tests'.ryas conducted on implemeniation in one of the smalt nousehold industries includes combustion air flow, combusiion flame temperature, visual flame coiour and wqter boiling test as well as economic evaluation" The performance test of the stove with combustion chamber inside diameter of 15 cm' height of 45 cm' primary air hole of 7 cm x 13 cm and secondary air holes of 3 cm has good thermal efficiency' specific fuel consumption and combustion flame temperature' The results cf test showed the siart' up time of 10.55-16.34 min., the specificfuelconsumption (sc)of 0.51 to 0.76 kg/h with the thermai efiiciency (qth) of 20-21Y0 has a maximum fire power of 22.97 kW and 8'76 kW using coconut shells and wood chips, respectively. The biomass consumption cost ior boiling water was about IDR 130-300/kg of water and this economic price is stillmuch cheaper than using kerosene stove and LpG stove was about tDR lgglkg of water and IDR 250/kg of water, respeciively, From this study, the performance test is meet to the indonesian Nationai Standard of biornass stove {SN' 7926:2013) and suitable for the households, especially small household industries in ruralareas' Further study related to C0 and particulates emissions will be conducted in an attempt to improve this biomass stove design
