The first and the biggest Department Store in Indonesia was introduced by Matahari Department Store. This business has run for 59 years, since October 24, 1958 with the first store in Pasar Baru in Jakarta, a kids fashion store. It has operated 155 shops until now. It employs 40.000 workers. In 2017, Matahari experienced problems by closing its shop in Taman Anggrek Malll, Blok M and Manggarai. The closing of those matahari shops can cause the increasing numbers of unemployment. If Matahari Department store manages and develops Human Resources routinely it can improve the quality of its employment and it is bad if these quality workers move to other companies that need them. This research is intended to describe the activity of managing and developing Human resources in Matahari Store. The use of this research is to be the source of information for the other companies with the same type of business to employ qualified matahari employees . If these laid off qualified employees because of the closing of Matahari Store , are employed by other companies , it will reduce number of unemployment. Another use of this research is to give information about the method of managing and developing human resource used by Matahari in employing 40000 workers. The method used in this research is interviewing and literature studies.
